4.    Teenager does not want a fat tummy!


A concerned mother followed-up on her pediatrician’s referral for her underweight daughter to The Give Me Five Program.


She achieved a healthy body composition while enhancing her fitness, building core strength and decreasing her exercise heart rate (as measured by a standard 3-minute step test) by 8%.  She increased her weight 8%, body fat 13%, and BMI 3.3%.


Our work together included building strength and cardio fitness while learning the key elements of a healthy exercise protocol.  She is looking forward to working out with her mother at the gym and managing her weight in healthy ways.

We began with a complete fitness assessment and our family developed a common language about fitness and food.  We now are able to talk about food choices at home and at restaurants with a common knowledge about what is healthy.  We support each other in our individual fitness programs and know how to stay fit.

When I first started the highest weight I had reached was 161 pounds.  After meeting just a few times with Marsha, I began to understand what is good and bad for our bodies.  Marsha taught me so much like the right portions and great ways to exercise.


The best thing Marsha taught me was that I wasn’t going on a diet, I was choosing a healthy lifestyle. I lost a some weight, but when we ended the program, I really started to apply all her lessons and I the weight just dropped off.


I reached 132 pounds, which was the weight goal Marsha had set with me when we started the program. Today I still want to loose more weight but to me it was not about the weight but that I was starting to live a healthy lifestyle. Marsha has a great way of working with our son.  He enjoys the workouts and does a great job remembering the healthy choices when we go grocery shopping.
